अमेरिका के विख्यात साहित्यकार इमर्शन गाय तथा बछड़ों से बहुत प्रेम करते थे वह प्राय: कहा करते थे मुझे गाय से निश्छलता अहिंसा तथा परोपकार की प्रेरणा मिलती है लेकिन कार्य समाप्त करने के बाद वह अपने निवास स्थान के पास की गौशाला पहुंच जाते और घंटों तक गायों व बछड़ों के शरीर पर हाथ फेरते उन्हें अपने हाथों से हरी हरी घास खिलाते 1 दिन गौशाला के कमरे के बाहर गाय बछड़े अठखेलियां कर रहे थे कि अचानक जोरदार वर्षा होने लगी तमाम गाएं भीगने से बचने के लिए अंदर कमरे में चली गई किंतु एक बछड़ा बाहर खड़ा पानी में भीगने लगा इमर्शन तथा उनका पुत्र बछड़े को पकड़ कर अंदर कमरे में भेजने का प्रयास करते तो बछड़ा जोर लगा कर पुनः बार आ जाता इस प्रयास में वह बुरी तरह थक गए पास में ही एक वृद्धा यह दृश्य देख रही थी उसने बड़े प्रेम से बछड़े का सिर सहलाया अपना अंगूठा बछड़े के मुंह में डाला बछड़ा तुरंत उसके पीछे गौशाला में चला गया इमर्शन को समझते देर नहीं लगी कि जो कार्य में जबरदस्ती करना चाहते थे उसे वृद्धा ने बछड़े को प्रेम के वशीभूत करके दिखाया सच प्रेम की शक्ति अपार है

इमर्शन समझ गए कि जो कार्य में जबरदस्ती करना चाहते थे उसे फिर दाने बछड़े को प्रेम के वशीभूत करके दिखाया सच में प्रेम की शक्ति अपार है
